December 05, 2007Weimaraners - Breeders - General Description

Weimaraners are rather large sporting dogs of an aristocratic appearance. They are always gray (from mouse gray to silver gray), blending to somewhat lighter hues on the ears and the head. The Weimaraner's coat is short and smooth. A long-coated variety of Weimaraners is not accepted in the breed standard. However, some admirers of long-coated Weimaraners made some attempts to get this type accepted before the Second World War. Longhaired Weimaraners sometimes appear in the litters nowadays. Nevertheless, most long-coated Weimaraners are culled once they are born.
As the standard goes, male Weimaraners should weigh up to 85 pounds and females up to 65 pounds. The Weimaraner's appearance is strikingly intelligent and gracious. Amber eyes are always sparkling with loyalty and eagerness to cooperate.
